<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens achieving high brightness and having a large variable power ratio and high optical performance. <P>SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes, in order from an object side, a first lens group G1 having a positive refractive power, a second lens group G2 having a negative refractive power, a third lens group G3 having a positive refractive power, and a fourth lens group G4. During zooming from a wide angle end state W to a telephoto end state T, the distance between the first lens group G1 and the second lens group G2, the distance between the second lens group G2 and the third lens group G3 and the distance between the third lens group G3 and the fourth lens group G4 are changed. At least a part of the lens groups located closer to the image side than the third lens group G3 is moved as a vibration-proof lens group so as to include a component in a direction perpendicular to an optical axis.
