The dishwasher (1) has a rinsing container (3) comprising a loading aperture (2) and lockable by a door (5). Passive lighting units (6a-6c, 6l) are arranged in an inner space of the dishwasher and radiates light due to illumination by a set of light sources (9a, 9b) when the door is opened. The lighting units are arranged outside the container or within an interior part of the container. The lighting units comprise a solid body provided with photo-luminescent substance or fluorescent substance and made of glass or plastic. The lighting units have a light conductor with a light entry surface. The light sources are designed as LEDs or incandescent lamps.
