摘要 <p>A method of selecting, at a broadcast receiver, a media item (advert) for output in a slot of a broadcast programme, comprising receiving segment definitions corresponding to a plurality of substitutional media items associated with the slot and to a linear media item broadcast in the slot, and selecting either the linear media item or one of the substitutional media items based on a comparison between profile data associated with the receiver and the corresponding segment definitions. The linear media item may be selected in preference to one of the substitutional media items if the segment definition (metadata) corresponding to the linear media item, such as campaign ID metadata, matches the profile data associated with the receiver. Receiver profile data may be linked to user profiles. Respective priority ratings may be use to select between the linear media item and one of the substitutional media items. The linear item may have a maximum priority rating.</p>
