Regenerated cellulose textile materials are made by extruding a viscose containing a very small proportion of a polyalkylene oxide or of a compound containing a polyalkylene oxide chain into a coagulating bath of dilute aqueous sulphuric acid and sodium sulphate containing less than 20 g./l. of sulphuric acid and 0-0,5 g./l. of zinc sulphate calculated as the anhydrous salt. The gamma value of the viscose may be 65 or higher, and the proportion of the polyalkylene oxide or polyalkylene oxide chain may be less than 0,5% of the weight of the dry alpha cellulose content of the viscose, preferably 0,2-0,4%. The polyalkylene oxide may be polyethylene oxide and the molecular weight of the polyalkylene oxide or polyalkylene oxide chain may be 1,000-1,500. Desirably, the coagulating bath contains 10-20 g./1. sulphuric acid. The tow may be stretched on rollers after leaving the bath. The proportion of zinc sulphate needed to effect a given retardation of the regeneration of the cellulose is reduced by the method of the invention.
|
