A cell culture substrate comprising a tubular section of an inert material with a circular cross section, which has an interior lumen having a circular cross section, in which the vertical height of the substrate is approximately 1.5 times the diameter of the substrate and in which the radius of the lumen is approximately equal to the thickness of the wall of the substrate surrounding the lumen. Also claimed is a substrate as above but wherein the diameter of the lumen is approximately equal to half the diameter of the substrate and in which one end of the substrate has a channel cut perpendicular to the axis of symmetry of the lumen, where the diameter of the channel is approximately equal to the diameter of the lumen of the substrate. Further claims to a cell culture device comprising such substrates in a packed bed with a control unit and a method of culturing cells using said substrates. |
