Detection of analytes via nanoparticle-labeled substances with electromagnetic read-write heads

A first set of antibodies are bonded to a substrate, and are exposed to and bonded with target antigens. A second set of antibodies are bonded to nanoparticles, and the nanoparticle labeled antibodies are exposed to the targeted antigens. An electromagnetic write-head magnetizes the nanoparticles, and then a read-sensor detects the freshly magnetized nanoparticles. The substrate comprises a flexible film or a Peltier material to allow selective heating and cooling of the antigens and antibodies. Nanoparticles of different magnetic properties may be selectively paired with antibodies associated with different antigens to allow different antigens to be detected upon a single scan by the read-sensor.

1. A method for detecting target antigens in a biological sample comprising:
bonding a first set of antibodies to a plurality of biosample tracks deposited on a magnetic tape media; exposing the biological sample to the biosample tracks to allow the target antigens to bind to the first set of antibodies; bonding a second set of antibodies to magnetic nanoparticles; placing a solution of the second set of antibodies bonded to the nanoparticles on the biosample track to allow the second set of antibodies to bind to the antigens; rinsing the biosample tracks with water or a rinsing agent to remove any of the second set of antibodies not bound to the antigens; and scanning the tape media with a head module of a tape drive having a write-head and a magneto-resistive read sensor, wherein the write-head magnetizes the nanoparticles and the read sensor detects the magnetized nanoparticle in order to detect the antigens.
