A heat transfer device including a container in which a heat-transfer fluid circulates in a closed loop. The heat transfer fluid is capable of undergoing an increase in volume on solidifying. The container further contains particles suspended in the heat-transfer fluid. At least some of the particles are compressible under the pressure of the fluid, as the fluid is solidifying, so as to at least partially compensate for the increase in volume of the fluid upon solidifying. |

1. A heat transfer device comprising:
a container including a closed circulatory loop; a mixture comprising a heat-transfer fluid and nanoparticles suspended in and dispersed throughout said heat-transfer fluid, said mixture disposed in said closed circulatory loop, wherein said heat-transfer fluid undergoes an increase in volume on solidifying; and wherein the mixture formed by the nanoparticles and the heat-transfer fluid circulates in the closed circulatory loop; and wherein at least some of the nanoparticles are compressible under the pressure imparted to said nanoparticles during solidification of said heat-transfer fluid, so as to at least partially compensate for the increase in volume of said heat-transfer fluid upon solidifying. |
