A high performance golf ball includes a resin inner core, a rubber outer core, and a cover. The resin inner core is made of highly neutralized polymer, and may include a blend of different highly neutralized polymers. The cover is a two layer cover, with a hard inner cover and a thermoplastic polyurethane outer cover. The ball as a whole has properties to maximize performance and aesthetic properties, such as feel and sound.

an inner core layer comprising a highly neutralized polymer; the inner core layer having a diameter that ranges from 20 mm to 28 mm; the inner core layer having an inner core density; an outer core layer enclosing the inner core layer, wherein the outer core layer comprises polybutadiene rubber; the outer core layer having an outer core density; an inner cover layer enclosing the outer core layer, the inner cover layer comprising a thermoplastic material; the inner cover layer having an inner cover density ranging from 1.10 to 1.17 g/cm^3; an outer cover layer enclosing the inner cover layer, the outer cover layer comprising thermoplastic polyurethane; and the outer cover layer having an outer cover density, wherein the inner cover density is higher than any of the inner core density, the outer core density, and the outer cover density, wherein a cover density is a sum of the inner cover density and the outer cover density, wherein the cover density is at least 2.2, wherein a core density is a sum of the inner core density and the outer core density, wherein the cover density is greater than the core density, and wherein the golf ball has a coefficient of restitution of less than 0.8 when measured with an initial velocity of 131 ft/s.
