A liquid-tight seal between a storage battery post bushing and a battery cover is provided by surrounding the bushing with a compressible material such as soft rubber and then moulding plastic material e.g. hard rubber under pressure around the insert to compress said material and form the battery cores. A ring of soft rubber is fitted between the flanges 2 and 3 of a lead casting 1 forming a bushing in a lead-acid battery and the bushing is placed in a cover mould. A hard rubber cover 5 is then moulded around the bushing under high pressure and the ring of soft rubber is compressed. This compression is maintained when the cover and ring are cured and the boundary between the two members becomes indefinite. |
