The video data can be processed in accordance with ancillary data to adjust the visual characteristics, which can include filtering the images, blending images, and/or other processing operations.

A method comprising: receiving captured video data from an image sensor, the video data defining a sequence of frames including a first frame and a second frame detected after the first frame, with each frame including pixel data for a plurality of pixels; estimating a visual noise level in at least the second frame; detecting a degree of motion between the first frame and the second frame; and filtering the second frame by modifying pixel data for the second frame based on pixel data from the first frame using a filtering parameter that defines a degree of the modification, wherein the filtering parameter is determined based on the estimated visual noise level for the second frame and the degree of motion between the first frame and the second frame.
