PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set diplex reception protection time in communication in a synchronous network to be appropriate length.SOLUTION: An SDH communication device 14 outputs data received from a transmission path of an active system of a 0-system transmission path and 1-system transmission path, to a terminal side device 18. When changeover of the transmission path of the active system occurs, the SDH communication device 14 suppresses, during protection time, output of data received from the transmission path of the active system after the changeover. An SDH communication device 12 transmits predetermined mark data to both of the 0-system transmission path and 1-system transmission path. The SDH communication device 14 detects time difference between reception of the mark data from the 0-system transmission path and that of the 1-system transmission path; and determines length of the protection time on the basis of the detected time difference.
