<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an organic EL element improved in light extraction efficiency by effectively extracting waveguide mode light and SPP mode light and achieving light emission with high diffusion properties; and an image display device and a lighting system including the organic EL element.SOLUTION: An organic EL element includes a scattering layer, a first electrode, an organic layer including a light emitting layer, a second electrode, a low refractive index layer and a metal layer, in the order. The second electrode comprises a translucent conductive material. The low refractive index layer has a lower refractive index than the organic layer. The scattering layer comprises a medium and a scattering part existing in the medium and having a refractive index different from that of the medium, while the refractive index nof the medium and the refractive index nof the scattering part satisfy n-n>0.5 or n-n>0.25.</p> |
