PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform an AF in high speed with AF accuracy maintained by selectively using a focus evaluation value generated from signals of all pixels and a focus evaluation value generated from a thinned-out addition signal.SOLUTION: A focus adjustment device adjusting a position of a focus lens on the basis of an imaging signal obtained by photographing an optical image of a subject formed by an imaging optical system including the focus lens, the focus adjustment device is configured to: acquire a first imaging signal read by performing a pixel addition and thining-out and a second imaging signal read without the pixel addition nor thining-out; generate first and second focus evaluation values showing a contrast of respective images from the first and second imaging signals; determine a focus state of an optical image of a subject on the basis of at least one of the first and second focus evaluation values; and determine a focus position of the focus lens by performing a focus adjustment in accordance with the determination of the focus state on the basis of the first focus evaluation value and performing a focus adjustment in accordance with the determination of the focus state on the basis of the second focus evaluation value. |
