A steering column tilting apparatus of the present invention includes a bracket fixed to a vehicle body to support the steering column, a fixed gear secured to one side of the bracket, a tilt bolt coupled to a tilt lever provided to the other side of the bracket and going through the steering column bracket and the fixed gear, a movable gear coupled to the tilt bolt and provided to be meshed with the fixed gear, a holding member fastened to the tilt bolt to finish the movable gear, and a first spring provided between the fixed gear and the movable gear and applying resilient force to move the movable gear to the outside. When the tilt lever is operated to lock, the holding member moves the movable gear in the direction of the fixed gear and the fixed gear and the movable gear are engaged to enable the bracket to press and fix the steering column. In addition, the inside of the movable gear is provided with a first spring, and a second spring is provided on the outside. A stop ring is provided between the first spring and the movable gear so that the first spring controls the elastic force acting in the outward direction. Consequently, the tension of the first spring is being offset and the gear engagement of the fixed gear and the movable gear is done flexibly by the elastic force of the second spring. |
