PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that automatically detects a size of recording mediums stored in a paper cassette when the paper cassette is attached to an apparatus body, and that restricts errors in detection of the recording medium size without deteriorating the user operability.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes an apparatus body 10, a paper cassette 20, a rotary operating member 80 provided on the paper cassette, an engaging portion 21a and engaged portions 82a to engage the rotary operating member with the paper cassette, and a size detection switch 92 provided in the apparatus body. A direction of a rotational force, which is applied to the rotary operating member by the size detection switch when the paper cassette is attached to the apparatus body, is referred to as a first direction, and the reverse direction to the first direction is referred to as a second direction. The rotational force in the first direction, necessary for releasing the engagement of the rotary operating member with the engaging portion, is greater than the rotational force in the second direction necessary for releasing the engagement. |
