PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter, a data processing method, and a data transmission/reception system, capable of performing compression or reduction of media data, with an appropriate compression ratio or reduction ratio.SOLUTION: A transmitter comprises: a processing unit 11 for compressing or reducing media data on the basis of a predetermined format; a transmission unit 12 for transmitting the media data compressed or reduced by the processing unit 11 to a user terminal device; a reception unit 13 for receiving data transmitted from a user terminal device 100; and a monitoring unit 14 for monitoring a traffic transfer or transmission situation on the basis of operation of the transmission unit 12 and reception unit 13. The processing unit 11 determines whether or not to compress or reduce media data, on the basis of the traffic transfer or transmission situation monitored by the monitoring unit 14, and, in a case the processing unit 11 has determined to compress or reduce the media data, the processing unit 11 determines a compression ratio or reduction ratio, and compresses or reduces the media data by using the determined compression ratio or the reduction ratio. |
