The method involves detecting an abrupt change in operation of a powertrain in the event of application of acceleration or deceleration setpoint (E2). Tilting of the powertrain is proportioned (E1) by the use of an electric machine, where the proportioning is triggered by the detection of the abrupt change in operation of the powertrain. A value of a signal representative of crushing of a stop device that limits the tilting of the powertrain is measured (E4), where proportioning is a function of the value of the signal. An independent claim is also included for a device for managing the positioning of a powertrain having an internal combustion engine for a car.
