A solid substrate for tissue repair, said solid substrate consisting essentially of three phases wherein: a first phase of said three phases comprised substantially of a first biocompatible polymer, which first phase is characterized by being comprised of an elastic material which is substantially less rigid in structure than that of said second and third phases of said three phases; a second phase of said three phases comprises a marine organism skeletal derivative-based solid substrate further comprising a second biocompatible polymer, wherein said second phase further comprises a series of hollows along a longitudinal axis in said second phase, and wherein said second biocompatible polymer is substantially located within said series of hollows; and a third phase of said three phases comprises a marine organism skeletal derivative-based solid substrate, optionally comprising a series of hollows along a longitudinal axis in said third phase.
