Provided is a means with which p19-dervied non-specific reactions can be reduced while inhibiting, as much as possible, a reduction in measurement values of HTLV-antibody positive cases. A method for reducing non-specific reactions in the immunoassay of anti-HTLV antibodies according to the present invention includes a step in which a modified p19 peptide is introduced into an antigen-antibody reaction system. The modified p19 peptide is a polypeptide which is configured from a p19 fragment including a region spanning amino acids 103 to 130 in HTLV p19, and which is provided with at least one substitution mutation in a region corresponding to amino acids 112 to 118 in p19. Furthermore, the modified p19 peptide is typically an artificial polypeptide.
