摘要 The present invention provides methods identifying subjects having prostate cancer (PCa) by detecting in micro-particles a pair of biomarkers. The methods disclosed can be used to distinguish subjects having PCa from those having non-malignant prostate pathologies, including benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods for monitoring prostate cancer and assessing efficacy of prostate cancer therapies are also disclosed. Kits for detecting prostate cancer using the methods disclosed are also provided.

A method for diagnosing prostate cancer in a subject, the method comprising: a) analyzing a bodily fluid sample to detect in the bodily fluid microparticles having at least first and second biomarkers on their surface, wherein the first biomarker is expressed by prostate epithelial cells and the second biomarker is expressed by prostate cancer cells but not by benign prostatic hyperplasia cells or other non-malignant prostate cells; b) comparing the amount of microparticles positive for both the first and second biomarkers with a reference value, wherein if the reference value is derived from a non-malignant prostatic sample then a detected value above the reference value is indicative of prostate cancer and a detected value equal to or below the reference value is indicative of a non-malignant disease state and, wherein if the reference value is derived from a malignant prostatic sample then a detected value equal to or above the reference value is indicative of prostate cancer and a detected value below the reference value is indicative of a non-malignant disease state; and c) diagnosing the subject on the basis of the results obtained in step (b).
