　The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for producing lactic acid that makes it possible to increase the amount of lactic acid produced and suppress the residual sugar content. The present invention provides a method for producing lactic acid, the method comprising: (i) a step for preparing a culture broth containing sugar-containing medium and lactic-acid-producing microorganisms, the culture broth having a starting pH that is suited to the growth of the lactic-acid-producing microorganisms, and culturing the microorganisms; (ii) a step for culturing the lactic-acid-producing microorganisms at a pH lower than the starting pH; and (iii) a step for culturing the lactic-acid-producing microorganisms at a pH suited to the growth of the lactic-acid-producing microorganisms, wherein a step is included in which the pH in step (iii) is the same as or different from the starting pH, and step (ii) is before or after step (i).
