摘要 Devices, systems, and methods for detecting molecules of interest within a collected sample are described herein. In certain embodiments, self-contained sample analysis systems are disclosed, which include a reusable reader component, a disposable cartridge component, and a disposable sample collection component. In some embodiments, the reader component communicates with a remote computing device for the digital transmission of test protocols and test results. In various disclosed embodiments, the systems, components, and methods are configured to identify the presence, absence, and/or quantity of particular nucleic acids, proteins, or other analytes of interest, for example, in order to test for the presence of one or more pathogens or contaminants in a sample.

A valve-actuating element for selectively opening an outlet to a microfluidic channel within a cartridge, wherein the valve-actuating element comprises: a via positioned in a printed circuit board of the cartridge and thermally coupled to a heating element, the via positioned under, over, or adjacent to the outlet; and a valve comprising a phase-changeable material, wherein: in a first state, the phase-changeable material is deposited on the via and extends into the outlet, occluding an entire cross-section of the outlet, andin a second state, the phase-changeable material does not occlude the entire cross-section of the outlet; wherein the valve is configured to transition from the first state to the second state upon activation of the heating element, and wherein activation of the heating element delivers heat to the via and consequently to the phase-changeable material.
