A device for transcervical sampling comprising an insertion member with a sampling portion, the insertion member received in an outer tube having depth stops which determine the maximum depths that the outer tube can be inserted into the external os and that the insertion member can be inserted into the internal os. The insertion member has a structurally weakened portion to enable separation of the sampling portion from the insertion member once the sample has been taken.
