摘要 <p>An energy storage device stores and releases energy using the elastic properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) materials. A sheet, wire, cable or such-like formed from or containing CNT material is arranged within the device so potential energy can be stored by stretching the material, and kinetic energy can be released as the material relaxes. Preferably the CNT material forms a belt 1 attached to an anchor 2 at one end and to a moveable bar 4 at the other end. The belt 1 is preferably arranged around rollers or pulleys 3 to minimise the volume occupied by a given length of belt. The bar 4 can be moved 5 to stretch at least a portion 6 of the belt. The device may be arranged within a frame or enclosure 15, with protruding tabs or levers 13, 14 attached to the bar 4. The levers 13, 14 are pulled by cables 17 under the action of a rotating drum 18 to stretch the belt and store energy. Energy is released by allowing the belt to relax which causes contra-rotation of the drum 18. The device may be used to store and generate electrical power, and/or to propel vehicles.</p>
