The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for assisting parking and, more specifically, to an apparatus and a method for assisting parking, which enable drivers to drive within an area where a parking compartment corner is able to be detected using a parking compartment guideline detection area or a detectable area from AVM composition videos. The method for assisting parking according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a step of detecting parking compartment guidelines from a first video that is composed of a number of videos that are generated using multiple cameras installed on a vehicle; a step of calculating the distance between the vehicle and the detected parking compartment guidelines; a step of determining whether the calculated distance is within a threshold value; and a step of displaying a message that advises to change the distance between the vehicle and the detected parking compartment guidelines when the distance is not within the threshold value. |
