A torsional vibration damper comprises hub and inertia members with an annular enclosed chamber 6 between them with a minimum dimension 1À0 mm. and containing a substance with both elastic and plastic properties. A flange 5 of the hub member 3 and the inner faces of members 7, 8, which are bolted together to form the inertia member, enclose an annular chamber 6 of the U- shaped cross-section with a minimum dimension, for example between 1À5 and 5À0 mm. The chamber contains a mixture of polyisobutylenes with a high proportion of those of low molecular weight having strong adhesive properties and with the remainder of high molecular weight showing elastic and plastic properties.
