910,172. Coating with metals. ARMCO INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. Dec. 28, 1960 [Dec. 28, 1959], No. 44493/60. Addition to 910,171. Class 82 (2). [Also in Group XXII] In order to restore the coating damaged during welding the seam of a coated metal tube, a wire or ribbon of the coating metal is applied to the welded seam while the temperature of the welded seam is still above the melting point of the coating metal. A wire 16 of coating metal, e.g. zinc, tin or aluminium is supplied from a reel 17 and guided by an idler roll 19 around a roller 18 engaging the welded seam of a steel tube 10 at point close to the welding station. The roller 18 has a profile 24 corresponding to the diameter of the tube 10, a shallow recess 26 for shaping the wire 16 as it fuses to re-coat the weld and a deeper recess 25 for locating the wire 16. The coated seam is subsequently pressed to shape by rollers 20, 22. |
