The present invention suggests an apparatus and a method for controlling the speed of a vehicle considering slope of a road, which determine whether a road has a slope and control the speed of a vehicle in accordance with the determination results and based on the information obtained from sensors of a vehicle. The apparatus for controlling the speed of a vehicle according to the present invention comprises: a monitoring unit which monitors the acceleration of a vehicle in the traverse direction of the vehicle; a traverse direction acceleration determination unit which determines whether the acceleration in the traverse direction exceeds a predetermined value; a slope determination unit which determines, upon the confirmation that the acceleration in the traverse direction exceeds the predetermined value, whether a road has a slope; and a speed control unit which maintains the current speed of the vehicle if the road is determined to have a slope. |
