In a heat-exchanger comprising a bundle of longitudinally-finned tubes 26 surrounded by an outer shell 10, fluid is prevented from flowing through the peripheral recesses 44 defined by the fins 25 of the outer tubes of the bundle and the outer shell wall by means of closure members 51 (Fig. 4). The end portions 53 and 54 of the latter are curved to fit against the outer shell while its central portion is grooved as at 55 to fit against the fins 25 defining the recesses 44. A cylindrical member 61 is fitted around the central tube of the bundle and further closure members 62 similar in form to the members 51 are fitted around the cylinder to close the internal spaces 45 between the fins of the tubes to fluid flow. Straps 68 and 69 are used to support the bundle of tubes 25, the former around the end portions 53 and 54 of the closure members 51 and the latter between the ends. In the illustrated embodiment (Fig. 1), the tubes 26 are of the hairpintype enclosed in parallel outer shells 10 and 11 which have a removable end cap 12.</p> |
