1,010,424. Drying apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 24, 1962 [Aug. 28, 1961], No. 32653/62. Heading F4G. Apparatus for drying suspended articles, such as moist envelopes for filament lamps, comprises means for moving the articles along a path and for supporting them during the movement in positions inclined from the vertical, and means for removing liquid collecting at the lowermost point of the article. Lamp bulbs 5, Fig. 1, are intermittently conveyed in a rotary path in a horizontal plane by a central drum 2 and in an inverted position to drying positions 30 . . . 34 by holders 4, in which drying positions the bulbs are dried by streams of hot gas being blown centrally into each bulb from means not shown. In drying positions 32, 33, 34 the bulbs are tilted away from the vertical by an inwardly directed portion 18, Fig. 3, of a guide rail 16 so that layers of moisture left on the necks of the bulbs after the treatment in the positions 30 to 33 run down to form a drop 36 at the lowermost point of each bulb which is removed at the position 34 either by a gas stream 41 from a nozzle 40 or by a wiper (not shown). Each holder 4 comprises a pair of arms 6, 7 welded to a member 8 on the drum 2, which arms carry studs 10 forming bearing points for the bulb, the plane passing through the points remaining unchanged during the movement of the holders.
|
