[Also in Group XXX] A safety lock suitable for preventing the sudden descent of, for instance, a hanger door, comprises, at each end of an axle 3 supporting the door, a member 5 which normally assumes the vertical position shown due to the weight of the door acting through the axle 3 and the tension acting on a cable 11. If the cable breaks, however, the member is rotated anticlockwise by a torsion spring 7 so that a projection 17 on the member enters one of a series of apertures 18 in a channel-sectioned member 1 in which the lock slides, the descent of the door thereby being stopped. The invention is also applicable to lifts and mine cars. |
