Latch assembly with pawl switch override device

A latch assembly comprising a claw 12 moveable between an unlatched (Fig 1) and latched (Fig 3) position with an intermediate safety latched position (Fig 2), a pawl 14 engaging the claw in said latched position and disengaging the claw for movement to the unlatched position, a switch cam 18 moveable between a switch-off (up) and a switch-on (down) position, the switch-on position activating a switch 20 and the switch-off position deactivating the switch, the claw engaging and holding the switch cam in said switch-on position when the claw is in the unlatched position (Fig 1) via shoulders 54 and 60, the claw releasing the switch cam to the switch-off position when the claw rotates to the latched safety position (Fig 2). A pawl switch override mechanism comprising a portion 72 on the pawl which engages with the switch cam 58 to move the switch cam to the switch-on position when the claw is moved to the latched position. The system turns latch motor 49 on when the latch is in the safety position and off at the latched/unlatched position thus moving the claw from the safety to latched positions.
