An apparatus for applying adhesive to a continuous flat web of wrapper material 27 in the manufacture of smoking articles or components for smoking articles. The apparatus comprises a supply of adhesive 12, an adhesive applicator 13 to receive adhesive from the adhesive supply, and a support member 20. The apparatus is configured to apply adhesive from the adhesive applicator onto a continuous flat web of wrapper material as it is conveyed over the support member with the continuous flat web of wrapper material oriented in a vertical plane. Alternatively the adhesive could be placed by spraying it on to the applicator from nozzles (44, Fig. 4); or by having an adhesive roller (63, Fig. 6) partially immersed in adhesive container 61 (Fig. 6). |
