The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating cancer diseases, which contains a psammaplysin compound or an extract of Suberea sp. sponge (Suberea sp.) as an active ingredient. More particularly, the novel compound or the extract of Suberea sp. of the present invention exhibits effects of suppressing the growth of various cancer cell strains, and can be used as a pharmaceutical composition or a health food composition which is useful for preventing or treating cancer diseases.
