<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound having a higher viscosity index and better low-temperature fluidity in comparison with a compound having similar kinematic viscosity, a lubricant base oil prepared by mixing the compound, a grease base oil, and a lubricant and grease using them. <P>SOLUTION: An alkyl monoether alkyl monoester compound, which is an alkyl monoether alkyl monoester compound of 2,4-diethyl-1,5-pentanediol, is represented by general formula (1).
