A speech intelligibility enhancing device includes a processor which increases the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of received speech, measures noise (eg. environmental), applies a spectral shaping (SS) filter and a dynamic range compression (DRC) dependent on the measured noise (eg. on a real-time, frame by frame basis) before outputting the enhanced speech. A memory may further be used to redistribute energy from high energy parts of the speech to low energy parts for normalization (S118, fig. 12). |
