A deferred action battery circulates electrolyte (e.g. sea water) through conduits 28, 30 and thus avoids the need for a depolarizer. Magnesium or magnesium alloys are used for the anodes and the cathodes may be platinized or of a noble metal or nickel having a low hydrogen over - voltage. The conduits direct the electrolyte to a number of cells in the battery and are designed to limit the consequent short-circuit current. The cells may be series or paralleled or series/ paralleled and may consist of bipolar elements. |
