The present invention relates to a system and a method for controlling starting of a vehicle to change starting patterns according to a gradient of a road and a short term driving tendency index of a driver and execute starting control according to the changed starting patterns. A method for controlling starting of a vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises steps of: detecting input variables; calculating a short term driving tendency index based on the input variables; determining whether the short term driving tendency index is not less than the preset short term driving tendency index if the starting conditions are satisfied; and executing starting control according to the first pattern if the short term driving tendency index is not less than the preset short term driving tendency index.
