摘要 Methods and systems having improved capabilities are described for providing communications to a plurality of cellular mobile devices through generating m different sets of fixed position patterns of N RF beams across four contiguous one-millisecond LTE sub-frames from an agile beam forming antenna system of a cellular LTE base transceiver station. The cellular LTE base transceiver station is in RF frequency division duplexing (FDD) communication with the plurality of cellular mobile devices within a cell coverage area of the cellular LTE base transceiver station. Each RF beam illuminates a non-contiguous sub-area of the cell coverage area. A number m sets of RF beam patterns illuminate the area of the cell coverage area, wherein 1≦m≦4.

A system for supporting cellular mobile transceiver device communications, comprising: a cellular LTE base transceiver station adapted for RF frequency division duplexing communication with a plurality of mobile transceiver devices within a cell coverage area of the cellular LTE base transceiver station, the cellular LTE wireless base transceiver station comprising an agile beam forming antenna system that is adapted to provide full coverage of the cell coverage area by generating a number m different sets of fixed-position patterns of a number N RF beams, each RF beam sized to cover a sub-area of the cell coverage area with the cell coverage area being covered with the number m different sets of the number N RF beams, wherein 1≦m≦4, and the antenna system is adapted to generate each of the m sets of N RF beams in a different one-millisecond sub-frame of an LTE frame such that the m sets of N RF beams are generated in a sequence across four contiguous one-millisecond sub-frames and to enable operation of Hybrid-ARQ functionality with a 4 msec interval between a data packet transmission from a respective one of the plurality of mobile transceiver devices to the cellular LTE base transceiver station and an ACK or NAK from the cellular LTE base transceiver station in response to receipt of the data packet transmission, and an 8 msec interval between the data packet transmission and a retransmission of the same data packet from the respective one of the plurality of mobile transceiver devices if a NAK is received, and wherein, if m is equal to one, then a single set of N RF beams is repeated in fixed fashion in every sub-frame, if m is equal to two, then a first set of N RF beams is repeated in two of the four contiguous sub-frames and a second set of N RF beams is repeated in the other two of the four contiguous four sub-frames, and if m is equal to four, then each set of N RF beams is generated in a respective one of the four contiguous one msec sub-frames, such that each set of the four RF beams repeats every four msec.
