The console has a cockpit (1) that is fixed to a central portion (3). A combined rotary-sliding mechanism (222) is arranged between a support portion (2) and structural components (4) of the instrument panel. The rotary sliding mechanism is provided with two sliding ball bearings. The central portion, the support portion and the structural components of the instrument panel are interconnected by the rotary-sliding mechanism. The support portion has a securing unit (221) for fastening the support to the vehicle. An independent claim is included for a method of installing panel for vehicle.
