The present invention provides a cable-type secondary battery and a preparation method thereof. The cable-type secondary battery comprises: an inner electrode; and a sheet-type separation layer-external electrode composite for encasing the outer side of the inner electrode and formed as wound in a spiral form, wherein a separation layer for preventing a short circuit of an electrode, and an external electrode are compressed so as to be integrated. According to the present invention, the present invention minimizes a gap between the external electrode and the separation layer by bonding and integrating the external electrode and the separation layer, reduces the resistance within a battery and improves ion conductivity by ultimately decreasing the thickness of the battery, and improves stability and performance of the cable-type secondary battery by allowing the separation layer in close contact with the external electrode to absorb an electrolyte through fine pores so as to uniformly induce the electrolyte to be supplied to an external electrode active material layer.
