The present invention relates to a technique for preventing an overload of an update providing server by distributing update providing server contacts, wherein update starting times are differently set for each of devices for performing updates of applications installed in the devices through the update providing server. A device for performing an update according to an aspect of the present invention is a device for performing an update of a particular application installed in a device. The device for performing an update comprises: an optional value receiving unit for receiving information about a value optionally selected from values within a predetermined range from an update providing server; an opening date receiving unit for receiving information about update opening times from the update providing server; an update time calculating unit for calculating the update time of the particular application by using the received information about the optionally selected value and information about the update opening times; an update information receiving unit for receiving update information of the particular application after the calculated update time; and an updating performing unit for performing an update of the particular application by using the received update information.
