<PICT:0923405/III/1> Apparatus for feeding material 8 in sheet or web form during printing or other treatment of the material comprises one or more magnetic guides 4 incorporating permanent magnets or electromagnets, an endless conveyer belt 1 guided on the guide or guides 4, and one or more endless magnetic working belts 5, the arrangement being such that the material 8 is held between the belt 1 and the working belt or belts 5 in one or more areas in which the belt or belts 5 are urged towards the belt 1 by magnetic force derived from the magnetic guide or guides 4. The treatment process may be coating or laminating several pieces of material. In the three-colour printing process shown, the conveyer belt 1 is of rubber &c. and mounted on rollers 2, 3, the latter being driven, and is supported on three magnetic guides 4 having uniformly or non-uniformly distributed fields. Each printing unit comprises a belt 5, arranged on rollers 6, 7, consisting of rubber and magnetic material and provided with a patterned printing surface, and an inking device 9. Where the sheets or webs are to be coated, the belt 5 has a smooth surface and the device 9 supplies adhesive or other coating substance. A non-magnetic heater unit may be arranged immediately above the belt 5, where the sheets &c. are to be heat-treated or dried. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), the guide 4 and belt 5 are arranged to feed the sheets &c. vertically, and a drier is disposed near the delivery run of the belt 5. The apparatus may also be used for laminating or vulcanizing two or more sheets of material. The magnetic guide 4 may be in the form of an arcuate faceplate or roller.ALSO:Apparatus for feeding material 8 in sheet or web form during printing or other treatment of the material comprises one or more magnetic guides 4 incorporating permanent magnets or electromagnets, an endless conveyer belt 1 guided on the guide or guides 4, and one or more <PICT:0923405/IV(a)/1> endless magnetic working belts 5, the arrangement being such that the material 8 is held between the belt 1 and the working belt or belts 5 in one or more areas in which the belt or belts 5 are urged towards the belt 1 by magnetic force derived from the magnetic guide or guides 4.
