PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform definition of reading information of a document.SOLUTION: A document reading device reads characters from an image of a document obtained by optically reading the document. The document reading device comprises a screen control section and a character recognition section. The screen control section outputs a screen having the image of the document and display columns displaying item names of character data to be read from the image of the document and recognition result character data corresponding to the item names. In the case where a desired item name and an area of a reading object corresponding to the desired item name are specified by input operation to the screen, the character recognition section performs character recognition of an image portion of the specified area and displays the recognition result character data in the display column of the recognition result character data while storing the recognition result character data obtained associated with the item name.
