<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a structure of a variable valve gear and a method for operating the same when changing operation characteristics of a valve by moving a cam carrier having a plurality of cams in an axial direction of a cam shaft.SOLUTION: For example, a first intake cam 11a and a second intake cam 11b having different valve operation characteristics and adjacent with each other in the axial direction are arranged on an outer periphery of an intake cam carrier 13 integrally rotated with an intake cam shaft 6 and movable along the axial direction of the intake cam shaft 6. A pair of intake end cam surfaces 22 having a height difference in the axial direction is arranged on each of axial direction both ends of the intake cam carrier 13. An intake cam control shaft 24 rotatable around an axis parallel to the intake cam shaft 6 is disposed on a radial direction side part of the intake cam shaft 6. A pair of intake cam pins 28 having an outer peripheral surface selectively brought into contact with one of the pair of the intake end cam surfaces 22 so as to move the intake cam carrier 13 to the axial direction is attached to the intake cam control shaft 24 in a state of having a phase difference in the rotating direction of the intake cam control shaft 24.</p> |
