[Also in Group XXVIII] A method of removing an end fitting which includes an insert 30 telescoped into a hose 28 and an outer clamping sleeve 36 from the hose, comprises the step of embracing hose with a longitudinally divided collar 10 having a tapered portion 20 which wedges between the hose and sleeve 36 to remove the latter by splitting it. The collar may comprise two parts 12. The tapered portion 20 is provided with a plurality of nibs 18, pairs of which may be diametrically opposed, extending radially outwardly from the tapered portion and effecting the splitting of sleeve 36 along defined lines. The collar may be mounted in a fixed bed 37 of a press, the splitting force being provided by a ram 38. The collar 10 may, however, be mounted in any suitable device with hammer blows providing the force. The insert 30 may be re-used after the joint is broken. |
