A line segment detection apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a head part to detect light reflected from a surface of a cutting target medium and support a sensor for outputting signals corresponding to detected quantity of the light; a driving unit to move the head part relatively in 2D direction of the cutting target medium; and a processing unit to operate the driving unit and execute a calculation processing step by the output of the sensor. The processing unit comprises: an area detecting unit to detect an area having different reflectance from surroundings, based on changes in signal output from the sensor; and a determining device to determine whether the area is a line segment when the sensor passes any point in the area, is parallel to the cutting target medium and moves in a second direction which is perpendicular to a firs direction, and when the area detecting device detects an area, based on changes in signal output from the sensor. A computer readable storage medium to store a control program for a cutting plotter is disclosed. |
