The present invention provides a high-carbon steel wire with excellent drawability and torsional characteristics, and a manufacturing method thereof. The wire comprises: 0.5-0.7 wt% of C, 1.5-2.5 wt% of Si, 0.2-0.7 wt% of Mn, 0.003-0.05 wt% of Sol.Al, 0.02 wt% or less of P, 0.02 wt% or less of S, 0.002-0.008 wt% of N, 0.002 wt% or less of O, and the remainder consisting of Fe and inevitable impurities. The fine structure of the wire is formed into a non-pearlite structure comprising, in area percentage, 95% or higher of pearlite and 5% or less of ferrite and martensite. A ferrite decarbonization layer is formed on the surface of the wire. The ferrite forming the ferrite decarbonization layer includes, in area percentage, 48% or higher of a <100> crystal in parallel to a wire rolling direction. |
