The present invention provides a device and a method for changing a state of a cluster node, wherein whether to change into an activated state or a standby state node is autonomously determined by the cluster nodes through an autonomous diagnosis without intervention of an administrator, and the state of a node is changed accordingly. The device for changing a state of a cluster node according to the present invention changes an operational state of particular ones of nodes included in a multi-node environment cluster in which each node has different priorities. The device comprises: a valid state information receiving unit configured to receive a signal as predetermined from the particular nodes and receive information about whether the particular nodes are impossible to participate in the cluster; an activation determining unit configured to determine whether the particular nodes are in an activated state or in a standby state of waiting for participation in the cluster when information received by the valid state information receiving unit represents that the particular nodes are possible to participate in the cluster; and a state change determining unit configured to determine whether to change the state of the particular nodes determined by the activation determining unit, by using the different priorities for each of the nodes.
