PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated optical fiber that can maintain transmission characteristics over a long period of time and also facilitates working for connection to a connector.SOLUTION: A coated optical fiber comprises: a core 2 made of quartz glass; a first cladding layer 3, made of quartz glass, formed to cover an outer periphery of the core 2; a water-shielding layer 4 formed to cover an outer periphery of the first cladding layer 3; a second cladding layer 5, made of plastic, formed to cover an outer periphery of the water-shielding layer 4; and a jacket 7 formed to cover an outer periphery of the second cladding layer 5. A diameter of the core 2 is in a range of 190 to 400 μm, and an outer diameter of the second cladding layer 5 is in a range of 200 to 430 μm. |
